NH firefighter cleared of fire truck speeding charges

Firefighter Matthew Cole was found not guilty following a court trial

LACONIA, N.H. — A firefighter charged with driving too fast for conditions has been acquitted.

Police cited Firefighter Matthew Cole, of Chichester, for driving a fire truck “at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing, in compliance with legal requirements and the duty of all persons to use due care” on July 7, according to Fosters.com.

Firefighter Cole was cleared of the charges in March when Judge James M. Carroll IV found him not guilty following a court trial.

Police had said two witnesses saw Firefighter Cole momentarily lose control of the fire truck, leaving marks on the road and nearly hitting a car.
