Baltimore City firefighter dies of cardiac arrest

BALTIMORE CITY, Md. — A firefighter suffered a cardiac arrest at home on Friday.

Captain Donald Hubbel of Baltimore City’s Rescue Company #1 died while working out at home. His death is considered a line-of-duty death under the Hometown Heroes Act; it occurred within 24 hours of on-duty activity.

Captain Hubbel had been planning to attend his son’s graduation from Baltimore City’s fire academy later in the day. The members of his company presented his son’s certificate in his place.
