CLEVELAND — Mayor Frank Jackson will vigorously defend the city against a firefighters-union lawsuit challenging Cleveland’s residency requirement, a spokeswoman said Monday.
Cleveland Fire Fighters Association Local 93 and four individual union members filed their complaint Monday with the 8th Ohio District Court of Appeals, asking the court to order the city to follow a new state law banning municipal-employee residency requirements.
On Friday, Gov. Bob Taft signed a bill that prohibits local governments from requiring employees to live in or near their employing municipality.
