RALEIGH, N.C. — Dry conditions and high winds continued to cause troubles across North Carolina on Friday as firefighters battled two wildfires that have consumed about 400 acres and forced evacuations.
A blaze in McDowell County had covered 300 acres and authorities worked to evacuate at least 15 homes threatened by the fire. The fire, which started Thursday about 10 miles north of Marion, was about 30 percent contained, officials said.
A second wildfire in Harnett County covered 100 acres of mostly pine land but was not immediately threatening homes. Firefighters had the blaze 50 percent contained.
