IRVINE, Calif. — Firefighters evacuated several hundred guests around 5 p.m. Saturday at a 15-story Hyatt Regency after two of the hotel’s floors began filling with smoke from an electrical fire, officials said.

A man and woman were trapped in an elevator between the second and third floors of the building, on the 17900 block of Jamboree Road, Orange County Fire Capt. Marc Stone said. They were freed at 6p.m. It was unknown whether a fire melted equipment or the equipment overheated and cause a fire, Stone said.

Seven engines, two ladder trucks and a battalion chief were called out.
