HOMERVILLE, Ga. — A basic firefighting student with a Georgia volunteer department died Saturday after collapsing during training exercises on Friday.
Joey Turner, 48, was wearing full gear during a non-burn training exercise at the Georgia Fire academy when he apparently had a heart attack, according to FirefighterCloseCalls.com. Turner was given CPR at the scene before being transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Firefighter Turner’s condition stabilized and he was moved to the Medical Center of Central Ga., but his family decided Saturday to remove life support systems.
