Mich. firefighter dies after call during severe winter weather

KIMBALL, Mich. — Firefighter Donald Paterson responded to the firehouse for a wires down call in the middle of a serious winter storm. Paterson stayed on standby working station duties. A short time after returning home, Patterson experienced chest pains and was taken to Port Huron Hospital for treatment. He passed away during surgery. Firefighter Paterson had been a volunteer with the Kimball, Mich., Township Fire Department for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia; a daughter, Lorraine Curell of Fostoria; a son, Donald (Amanda) Paterson of Marysville; four grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Curell and Austin and Jake Paterson; his father-in-law, Floyd Fenner; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy (Ed) Polovich; two brothers-in-law, William Miskell and John Foglesong; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday in the Marysville Funeral Home. A Firefighters Pass and Review Ceremony will be Friday at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2008 in First Baptist Church of Marysville. The Rev. Dallas Berry will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township. Pallbearers will be Ryan Curell, Dan Miskell, Scott Hudy, Carl Stosik, Chris Petersen and Mike Deising. Honorary pallbearer will be Austin Paterson.

Memorial donations may be made to the wishes of the family.
