The South Dakota Supreme Court has ruled Sioux Falls officials acted properly when they suspended and demoted a veteran firefighter in 2002.
Dan Irvine, who retired earlier this year after three decades with the fire department, was reprimanded for missing a mandatory training session.
“The department took appropriate disciplinary action,” fire chief Donn Hill said, after reviewing the court decision.
