TAUNTON, Mass. — A deputy fire chief was credited with helping police catch a theft suspect after several firefighters’ vehicles were broken into this week.

A Taunton Fire Department deputy chief told police he chased two suspects after witnessing them break into crews’ vehicles.

“I saw two guys breaking into our cars and I chased them here where I lost sight of them,” the chief told police.

Crews said when they arrived to the station they saw two men attempting to open the doors of vehicles parked next to the station, reported Raynham Wicked Local.

Police apprehended Mark Gallagher, 29, and charged him with breaking and entering into a vehicle, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and attempting to commit a crime.

It is unclear whether the second suspect was apprehended.
