NORTH POLE, Alaska — A man was arrested after injuring a firefighter who was trying to stop him from entering a burning home.
News Miner reported that the North Star Volunteer Fire Department responded to a burning trailer home that was deemed a total loss, according to Battalion Chief Robert Wells.
“It was heavy smoke coming out of every window, door and eave,” Chief Wells said.
Micheal Dirks was standing outside of the home when firefighters arrived, and Chief Wells said he was trying to get into the burning home.
“He would get upset and then he would calm down,” Chief Wells said. “He was having a hard time with the whole thing. I suspect he was highly intoxicated. He was very, very upset. There was no way he could go in.”
Chief Wells said a firefighter tried to block Dirks from entering the home, and Dirks allegedly bit and injured him. He was arrested and faces charges of disorderly conduct and fourth-degree assault, according to police.
