LONG BEACH, N.Y. — Four firefighters were injured while battling what the fire chief called a “suspicious” house fire Wednesday.

Long Beach firefighters responded to the house fire, which was vacant and under construction, reported the LIHerald.

“Firefighters made entry and found multiple areas of heavy fire throughout the house,” the department wrote on Facebook.

Of the four injured, two firefighters were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and a broken ankle.

“It appears [the fire] started on the first floor then went up the pipe chase, got into the second floor and got up into the attic and right out the roof,” Fire Chief RJ Tuccillo said.

The fire remains under investigation.
