WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. — A fire chief defended a deputy chief and fire captain that were convicted of arson and still working on his department.
KMOV reported that Fire Chief Charles Schreiber, with the Washington Park (Ill.) Fire Department, said their convictions were mistakes they made in the past.
“We feel they are no threat to the public,” Chief Schreiber said. “We know they’re not going to set another fire or anything like that.”
Chief Schreiber said he’s confident in their abilities and isn’t worried about his reputation.
“This has happened years ago,” he said. “There’s been no other suspicions of anything. If I had any concern that they were arrested for setting another fire, I would not have them on the department.”
