HOUSTON — A Texas man allegedly came home drunk and set his house on fire, police said Sunday.

Jimmy Klayton Lauder, 31, returned to his Houston home, possibly intoxicated, and began pouring gasoline around the house while his wife and two children hid upstairs around 4:30 a.m., authorities said.

“Mr. Lauder intentionally set fire, using an ignitable liquid, to the home he shared with his wife and two small children,” Fire Marshal Laurie L. Christensen said in a statement.

Lauder’s wife heard the smoke alarm and called 911 and first responders were able to help her and her children escape unharmed.

“We are extremely grateful that no one was injured in this fire and that the female victim and her two children are safe,” Christensen said.

Lauder was charged with arson and child endangerment.
