BOSTON — A Boston firefighter accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside a city firehouse is now on administrative leave.
Boston Fire Department Commissioner Joseph Finn released a statement Thursday confirming Firefighter David Sanchez will remain on leave while he faces charges in court.
“The Boston Fire Department takes these allegations very seriously and they warrant our full attention. As a result, Firefighter Sanchez has been placed on administrative leave while this situation is adjudicated through the court system,” Finn said. “We will continue to monitor this situation and take swift and appropriate action if and when it is necessary.”
The 37-year-old firefighter from Hyde Park was arraigned April 18 on indecent assault and battery and assault and battery charges, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office reports. The charges were filed in a West Roxbury court.
Authorities said he is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the firehouse located on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain on Jan. 14.
A police report reviewed by WCVB News said a woman went to the Jamaica Plain station to retrieve personal belongings. The television station reports Sanchez is accused of pulling down the woman’s pants, exposing himself and trying to kiss her.
Sanchez was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to return to court June 13, according to the district attorney’s office.
