Girlfriend of fallen firefighter to run Boston Marathon
Sarah Wessmann is one of 46 people running on the Last Call Foundation team, which has already raised more than a quarter of a million dollars
BOSTON — Sarah Wessmann proudly unveils her team's marathon jerseys outside Ladder 15/Engine 33, the Boylston Street fire house where her boyfriend, Michael Kennedy, used to work.
"Last year was my first marathon, it would have been his fourth," Wessmann said. "That was the last thing I talked to him about so I kind of associate the marathon and my last moments with him."
Somehow Wessmann managed to complete her first marathon just weeks after Kennedy was killed in a raging Back Bay fire."When the people from the fire department were asking what they could do to help me, I said can you get me Mike's bib number? It was really important for me to run wearing both our numbers," Wessmann said.
