COOKE COUNTY, Texas — When one Cooke County volunteer fire department shut down in December, two other volunteer departments were forced to take on double the work without any increase to their already tight budgets.
Now Cooke County officials are trying to help these cash-strapped departments continue to protect their communities. Monday morning, Cooke County Commissioners voted to reallocate the funds originally set aside for Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire to both Callisburg and Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Departments.
The Callisburg Assistant Fire Chief says these funds will help them better serve their community, as well as the Oak Ridge community for the next year.
