Pa. volunteer FF who was trapped in a burning house prepares to leave hospital

Shawn Menear sustained burns in January and had surgery, but on Wednesday, the Middletown Volunteer Fire Department will escort him home

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — After being hospitalized for more than two months to recover from being trapped in a structure fire, Middletown volunteer firefighter Shawn Menear is scheduled to go home on Wednesday, the Patriot-News reported.

Menear sustained second- and third-degree burns and has undergone surgery.

The Middletown Volunteer Fire Department plans to escort Menear from the Magee Rehabilitation Center in Philadelphia to his home in Royalton. The department has invited other fire departments, local media, businesses and the general public to participate.

“Firefighter Menear put service above self, let’s show him some support,” the department said in a statement.

Menear was trying to rescue a homeowner from a fire in January who was killed in the fire.
