The man and woman were hospitalized in critical condition for treatment of second-degree burns and smoke inhalation

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Fire Department says passers-by broke open the front door of a burning home and pulled out two people trapped inside.

Fire Capt. Ardell Deliz says the two people rescued Tuesday morning are a man and a woman. They’re hospitalized in critical condition for treatment of second-degree burns and smoke inhalation.

According to Deliz, the rescued man earlier alerted two other women in the home to the fire, and those women got out OK. But Deliz says the man and a third woman were found right inside the front door when several passers-by broke it open.

The injured people were lying on the front yard when firefighters arrived.

The identities of those involved in the fire were not immediately available. Its cause is under investigation.
