SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento firefighter was injured while battling a house fire early Tuesday.

Dominic DeRose suffered moderate burn injuries from a house fire on Logan Street, said Chris Harvey, Sacramento Fire Department spokesman. The fire began about 3 a.m. and was contained within 15 minutes to one house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

DeRose had been one of the first firefighters to enter the burning house, Harvey said. While not life-threatening, the injuries “are more severe than initially thought” when DeRose was taken to UC Davis Medical Center. He is receiving treatment at the UC Davis Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center.

Fire officials have not yet released how DeRose received his injuries. Because this is a work-related injury, Harvey said OSHA will investigate the incident.

DeRose has been working at the department since November 2016.
