NEW YORK — Thousands gathered to mourn and remember former FDNY firefighter Ray Pfeifer at his funeral Friday.
Pfeifer was a first responder at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. He died from a longtime battle with cancer linked to the months he spent working at Ground Zero.
Pfeifer was also a key advocate in the passage of the James L. Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act that provided health care for those with 9/11-related diseases.
Comedian Jon Stewart is among those expected to eulogize Pfeifer.
