NEW YORK — FDNY firefighters rescued two babies whose mothers were about to throw them from the window of a burning building Monday morning.
Daily News reported firefighters arrived at the scene of an apartment fire and found that the first two floors of the three-story building were on fire.
A mother was halfway out of her window on the third floor preparing to drop her baby from the building, with a pregnant woman holding an infant behind her.
“We witnessed the mother of the child hanging out the window. She was yelling that she was burning up and she was going to throw her baby out,” Lt. Sean Hayden said.
Hayden and Lt. Joe Costa ran up to the third floor of the building and found thick, black smoke.
“When I opened the door to her apartment, I heard the scream to my right,” Lt. Costa said. “There was zero visibility.”
The two firefighters each grabbed a baby and ran from the fire with the two moms.
“If we hadn’t gotten there quickly, I don’t even want to think about what it would’ve looked like,” Lt. Costa sighed.
