This week, hosts Lt. Rom Duckworth and Chief Rob Wylie discuss recent stories of firefighters giving back to their communities and going above and beyond the call.

“As much negative things we see out there, people in the fire service are doing these things every single day,” Chief Wylie said. “There are opportunities every day to do something good in your community.”

They also talk about how NFPA committees work in their frontline tactical tips segment. They interview Capt. Albe Bassett, a rescue team leader with the Connecticut Fire Academy, and Glenn Mate, a NFPA committee member. They talk about the NFPA 1006 and 1670 standards for technical rescue and how they apply to real world fire department operations.

Their leadership lessons segment explains why you should never freeze out groups in the fire service.

“In the end, we all need to be able to work together and we all need to be involved,” Lt. Duckworth said. “A hurricane comes through, the career or volunteer departments, however it’s set up, everybody needs to be involved.”
