TRENTON, N.J. — A Trenton man who inexplicably knocked over a statue outside City Hall that stood as a memorial to Trenton firefighters killed in the line of duty was arrested late Sunday morning, police said today.
Kylike Fischer, 28, was caught thanks to a distinctive clothing description of a purple hoodie and camouflage pants provided by a 911 caller. When officers approached him about a block away from City Hall, Fischer referenced the damage to the statue without prompting, Sgt. Mark Kieffer said. “He said to them, ‘I didn’t do anything to the statue,’” Kieffer said.
The city’s firefighter memorial has a large stone block and plaques and was topped by the statue of a firefighter in a 19th Century-style uniform holding a baby. Police say Fischer pushed that portion over around 11:40 a.m. Sunday.
