System Supports Interoperable Communications for 73 Municipalities, and Surrounding Region
Arlington, VA, — Roam Secure today announced that the Chester County, PA Department of Emergency Services deployed the Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN) to rapidly communicate with thousands of first responders and emergency workers in Chester County as well as the greater Philadelphia area. The system connects 73 municipalities (58 Fire/Rescue/EMS organizations and 48 Law Enforcement organizations) within Chester County on a single, reliable alerting platform. With the 2006 tornado and hurricane season just weeks away, Chester County police, fire, health and other emergency personnel will be better prepared by having the Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN). Ed Atkins, Director of the Chester County Department Of Emergency Services said, “In addition to preparing the county for inclement weather, we plan on using the system to send operational notifications to ensure that all our first responders are always informed and ready to go at a moment’s notice.”
Chester County sends all-hazards alerts through RSAN’s, web-based, single interface to e-mail accounts, cell phones, pagers, BlackBerrys, Treos and other text-enabled wireless devices. With speeds of 18,000 messages per minute, per server, the RSAN system provides immediate information enabling police, fire and all first responders to take action in a timely manner and to stay informed throughout an emergency with frequent updates. The new RSAN system will also serve as their daily operational paging and e-mail system replacing the legacy e-mail based system. “Text-based alerting has been proven to be a reliable means of communication during major crises, when most other forms of communication failed. Chester County now has a critical tool in their arsenal that will enable them to easily and reliably communicate key information quickly and effectively, keeping government leaders and first responders informed and the public safer” said David Drescher, Chief Executive Officer of Roam Secure. “Chester County joins other local governments in the greater Philadelphia area in adopting RSAN, and they now have the ability to use RSAN County-wide, and across the region for interoperable text-based communications and information sharing.”
Chester County will also be able to communicate with Philadelphia and the surrounding areas in Southern New Jersey by joining the interoperable RSAN network deployed in the region. Using RSAN, Chester County is able to send unlimited alerts for free, helping to maximize usage of the system during all-hazards incidents without worrying about hidden fees or large unexpected usage charges. Chester County is located just outside of Philadelphia in southeastern Pennsylvania and is home to more than 450,000 citizens. It has a rich history dating back to 1682 as one of the first counties created by William Penn. The county is also known for its open space, old houses, cherished landmarks and giant sycamores.
