CONVERSE, Texas — A Converse firefighter has died after battling COVID-19, officials announced Wednesday.
Fire Captain Bryant Anderson, a 16-year veteran of the Converse Fire Department, died Tuesday.
“Our department is hurting from this news and this loss is devastating,” said Chief Luis Valdez in a statement.
“Losing Bryant has left a hole in our hearts that will be felt for years to come. We are better for having known and served with him and ask for prayers for his wife, Rosie, and their family during this difficult time.”
Anderson was described as a “selfless leader” known for volunteering for additional tasks and encouraging his fellow firefighters to improve themselves through education and training.
Converse Mayor Al Suarez said the city, located outside the Northeast Side of San Antonio, will lower all flags to half-staff until the burial.
The fire department and Anderson’s family are planning a memorial service to honor the fallen firefighter.
