HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A firefighter has been charged after footage showed him stealing a prescription pill bottle at a crash scene.

Click on Detroit reported that the Harrison Township Fire Department and Macomb County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a motorcycle crash, in which the driver had been transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they saw a prescription bottle at the scene, but when a Crash Investigation Unit arrived, they could not locate the bottle.

Officials reviewed body cam footage of the scene and saw firefighter Steven Hart picking up the pill bottle and walking to another area.

“In an effort to be more transparent to our community, our deputies wear body-worn cameras as part of their everyday uniform. Not only does this hold our deputies accountable for their actions but it also holds everyone around them, including the public and other first responders, accountable as well,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.

It is not clear what Hart did with the pill bottle after walking away. He was charged with one count of tampering with evidence.
