CARNEYS POINT TWP., N.J. — A volunteer firefighter has been charged with burglary in connection with the theft of more than $8,000 of equipment from his own fire company, authorities said.
John Boos, 32, of Penns Grove, was a volunteer with Carneys Point Fire Department and Rescue Squad for about four years.
Carneys Point Police said they received reports on Feb. 27 that five generators and two battery-powered Sawzalls (a brand of reciprocating saw) with battery backs valued at $8,500 were stolen from the township fire department. Boos was initially arrested March 20 and charged with burglary, theft of moveable property, receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit theft, police said.
