HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A fire department raised $15,000 for a family whose home was completely destroyed in a fire.
WSVN reported that the Hollywood Fire Department responded to a fire at the Velez family’s apartment, and although everyone made it out safely, the family was left with nothing.
“I remember the apartment being small and a total loss — everything in it was completely ruined, burnt,” firefighter Peter Falk said.
The department raised the money and presented it to the Velez family to help them get back on their feet.
“It’s nice to be able to help somebody put their life back together,” Falk said.
“Thank God for the fire department — they helped a lot, a lot,” German Velez said.
