SWANNANOA, N.C. — Several local fire departments are collecting donations to send to those affected by the West Virginia floods that killed 23 last week.
Deputy Fire Chief Larry Pierson of the Swannanoa Fire Department is spearheading the effort and collecting everything from water to cleaning and medical supplies.
As a West Virginia native, the floods have directly affected Pierson. “Even if this wasn’t my hometown, I’d want to help like and good Christian or any person would want to. But this is my home area. It’s hard to see that. I’ve seen it in other parts of the country,” Pierson told ABC13.
“We will be taking a load up the first of this week, and we will be making more runs.… They’re asking for nonperishable food items. Water is going to be a big need for a while,” posted the Swannanoa Fire Department on its Facebook page Saturday.
