PITTSBURGH — After a man posed on Facebook as an injured firefighter who sought financial support after being injured on the job, the local fire department has stated he is a fraud.
The fake firefighter, known as Ryan Jay, posted a photo of himself on Facebook in firefighting gear and holding a fire hose, reported PennLive.
The Pittsburgh Fire Bureau is now sharing the photo to warn the public of the scam, and warned the impostor may be using other Facebook profiles as well.
“If you receive any request for donation from anyone claiming to be a member of, or representing the Pittsburgh Fire Bureau, we ask you to contact the Pittsburgh Fire Bureau for confirmation of the affiliation,” the bureau said.
Officials are investigating the scam.
