BURTON, S.C. — After a police officer lost his dog in a fire, a firefighter gave him a gift that brought him to tears.

Bluffton police officer Doug Armstead lost his home and German Shepherd, Annie, in a fire Dec. 1, reported WSAV.

Lottie Campenella, who serves on the Firefighter Assistance Support Team and is married to Burton firefighter Eric Swanson, was at the scene of the house fire and witnessed Armstead’s reaction when he was told his dog had died.

After speaking with a neighbor of the Armstead’s, Campenella found out the Armsteads were interested in getting a new puppy. This weekend, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus paid the family a visit and brought them a German Shepherd puppy.

“We’re all in this together. It’s the least we could do,” Campenella said.

A GoFundMe page has raised nearly $10,000 for the Armstead family.
