ORANGE, Calif. — Two firefighters suffered minor electrical injuries fighting a blaze that broke out at an industrial complex early this morning in Orange.
Firefighters were deployed at 2 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 to a fire in a light industrial strip center on Batavia Street and Collins Avenue, said Ian MacDonald, a public information officer for the Orange Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a heavy blaze and smoke in the middle of a commercial multi-tenant building. After knocking down the fire in 25 minutes, firefighters noticed smoke and fire coming from a separate building to the north of the original building and a burning overhead electrical line across Batavia Street, MacDonald said.
“An energized metal fence was discovered to the rear of the building just moments later, and firefighters evacuated the original fire building when they had difficulty cutting power to the building,” MacDonald said, adding they contacted Edison to shut down the power. “They later re-entered the building … after the electrical was successfully shut down.”
The original fire building suffered heavy damage, while the losses in the second building were not as extensive, MacDonald said.
Two firefighters suffered minor electrical injuries and were transported to local area hospitals. They were later released, MacDonald said.
The cause and origin of the fires are being investigated.
More than 60 firefighters from Orange Fire Department along with Anaheim and Garden Grove Fire Departments and the Orange County Fire Authority helped put out the blaze.
