Firefighters fined for accepting free 2014 Super Bowl tickets

The FDNY firefighters, including a deputy chief and three battalion chiefs, claimed they didn’t know a firefighter had gotten the tickets for free

NEW YORK — Seven FDNY employees, including a deputy chief and three battalion chiefs, have been fined for accepting free tickets to the 2014 Super Bowl.

The NY Post reported that firefighter John Curatolo got 52 free tickets the night before the big game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos from the NFL vice president of community relations and philanthropy.

Curatolo used one ticket himself and shared others with six colleagues, who didn’t know he had gotten them for free. Curatolo was fined $4,000 and faced internal charges that he had abused his position to get a free benefit. The others were charged with accepting an unsolicited gift from a subordinate.
