SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — In the wake of the Gatlinburg wildfires that claimed 14 lives and damaged thousands of home, a couple had the opportunity to thank firefighters for saving their lives.
Jennifer and Tiki Dixon were evacuating from the city late November when a fallen tree blocked their escape route, reported WSLS. Four firefighters arrived at the scene and used chainsaws to cut the tree and clear the road.
In an emotional meeting, the Dixons were reunited with the firefighters Wednesday.
“It’s an awesome thing to be able to say thank you and just let them know you appreciate them,” Tiki Dixon said.
The couple gave the firefighters thank you cards, who in return, gave them a firefighter department patch. “These are mementos of where we have been and we would like to give this to you and remember us by,” firefighter Tom Lucas said.
“Seeing them face to face and being able to put a face to an incident was very nice. It was very neat to see,” Lucas said.
“I have a newfound respect for them. This is a blessing,” Jennifer Dixon said.
Great to see brave firefighters thanked for their courage and heroism! https://t.co/dRIsDMtxDh @6News #WATE
