LAWNDALE, Ill. — Two people were killed and nine others in a packed SUV were injured in a head-on collision with a car early Saturday in Lawndale on the West Side.
The 2003 Mazda SUV was northbound in the 1300 block of South Kostner at 3 a.m. when it swerved across the center lane into oncoming traffic, striking a 1995 Ford Probe, police said.
The SUV flipped over, ejecting several passengers who were not wearing seat belts and trapping others, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
The two killed in the SUV were an unidentified woman in her 40s and Jarrell Billingsley, 19, of the 5900 block of West Walton, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Police said two of those injured in the SUV were taken to Stroger Hospital, and three were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. Their conditions were not known. Two were taken in good condition to Loretto Hospital, police said..
The driver of the car was not hospitalized.
