4 injured in Calif. wreck; gas leak threatened to ignite

While one team of firefighters worked on extrication, another team worked to control a gasoline leak that threatened to ignite

VENTURA, Calif. — Four people were injured, three seriously, in a two-vehicle crash near South Wells Road and Darling Road in Ventura on Sunday at 12:40 p.m.

Brothers, 14 and 16, were in the back seat of a van and were seriously injured, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. The teens’ mother, Wendy Porter, 43, of Ventura, was driving the van when the accident occurred, according to the Ventura Police Department.

The brothers were taken by ambulance to Community Memorial Hospital and were treated and released.

The second vehicle was driven by Conrado Solano-Tirijo, 29, of Oxnard. Two passengers in his car, Cesar Rodriguez, 39, and Ramiro Cruz-Lopez, 23, both of Oxnard, were injured.

According to the fire department, the passengers were taken to Ventura County Medical Center. Cruz-Lopez was in good condition by Sunday evening. Rodriguez was listed in fair condition.

While one team of firefighters worked to free one of the victims and an ambulance crew assessed the patients, another team of firefighters worked to control a gasoline leak that threatened to ignite.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
