VERNAL, Utah — A Roosevelt woman was seriously injured Wednesday in a rollover crash on U.S. 40.
Jennis Yack, 83, was driving east on the highway near the junction with state Road 88 at about 12:45 p.m. when she lost control of her car, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Rex Olsen.
The car traveled off the right side of the road and Yack hit the accelerator instead of the brake, Olsen said, which caused the car to come back onto the road. Yack overcorrected and her car began to slide sideways off the road. The car struck a delineator post, accelerated into an embankment and went airborne for about 53 feet before landing and rolling one and a half times, coming to rest on its roof.
Yack was pinned in the car.
It took firefighters 30 minutes to extricate her. Crews at the scene said they were concerned about head injuries and possible spinal injuries.
Yack was taken to Ashley Regional Medical Center by ambulance and then flown to University Hospital by medical helicopter.
Her condition was not available late Wednesday because she was still being evaluated, said hospital spokeswoman Ryann Rasmussen.
