MANALAPAN, N.J. — Rescuers are working to free a man stuck in a pipe at a New Jersey water treatment plant.

United Water spokesman Rich Henning says the man broke into the plant that treats and pumps water for the township of Manalapan. Workers heard cries for help coming from a pipe around 7 a.m. Friday.

Henning says the outflow pipe is used for cleaning a storage facility and is no more than 24 inches wide.

Henning says there’s no problem with the water quality.

TV news footage shows firefighters huddled over the pipe.
