HAMILTON, N.J. — Dozens of Hamilton firefighters, rescue personnel, paramedics and police labored atop the Sloan Avenue railroad overpass to free a young woman heavily entrapped in a Jeep after it collided with another car early Friday evening.
As the woman sometimes winced in pain, a firefighter from Station 12 was in the mangled wreck with her, holding her hand and assuring her that his brother firefighters were going to get her out. And they did.
Using the jaws of life, they cut the roof off of the Jeep she was entrapped in, while medics started an IV line and rendered first aid.
As the rain intensified, a crowd of onlookers gathered to watch the drama unfold. After about 30 minutes, the victim was freed and carefully removed to an awaiting ambulance and taken to the Regional Trauma Center.
Meanwhile, several other accidents marred Hamilton’s homeward commute as the skies darkened and roadways became slick in the predicted downpours.
A three-vehicle crash on South Clinton Avenue and Redwood Street in Hamilton sent at least one victim to the hospital and left a home damaged after one of the vehicles involved ran into it..
At approximately the same time, a two-car crash on Nottingham Way, west of the I-295 overpass, slowed traffic and left two cars heavily damaged.
