EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The Evesham Township community is mourning the death of fallen firefighter Joseph Bichler.
Bichler, 66, suffered a fatal heart attack Monday after assisting on two calls. The firefighter-EMT joined the serviced 33 years ago and served the communities of Marlton and Evesham.
“While Joe’s response to fire and medical emergencies was admirable and he impacted countless lives of members of our community, a large hole has also been left in our organization,” Evesham Fire Chief Bryan Ward told the New Jersey Online.
The chief also said Bichler served as “father figure” and mentor to younger members of the department.
“For 33 years, Joe had a direct and noticeable impact, recruiting members, training members … keeping the members motivated … Joe’s impact to the spirit of volunteerism within our organization was, simply, amazing,” Chief Ward said.
Bichler leaves behind his wife and four children.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday.
