WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — Funeral services were held Monday for firefighter Ryan Osler, who was killed Sept. 21 in a fire truck rollover crash.
Thousands of firefighters attended the 18-year veteran’s funeral; Osler is the first Ventura County firefighter to die in the line of duty since 1991, reported the Gazette. At the time of the crash, Osler was on his way to help battle a wildfire.
“If he could help someone just to make a day in their life be a little better, he would. This is the core of his character,” Osler’s sister, Jeanine, told CBS Los Angeles. “Not that long ago, he received recognition for helping deliver a baby while on duty.”
During the service, Osler’s fire captain handed his fire helmet to his children. After the service, attendees traveled from the church to Osler’s burial site.
