Funeral set for fallen Chicago firefighter-EMT

CHICAGO — A funeral service for a fallen firefighter-EMT was announced Wednesday.

CBS Chicago reported that visitation for veteran Chicago Fire Department diver Juan Bucio, who died Monday while trying to rescue a boater, will be held Sunday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Saint Rita Cascia Shrine, a church known for hosting first responder services.

The funeral will be held Monday at noon at Saint Rita Cascia as well.

Fr. Bernie Scianna, director of the church, said they are “happy to accommodate in this difficult moment.”

“I saw it on the news and immediately wondered if we would get the call,” he said. “When these tragedies happen, people from around the country, and sometimes around the world, show up here in Chicago. It’s an honor and a memory of all those who serve in the fire and police departments.”

Bucio will be buried at Mt. Auburn Cemetery with full honors.
