ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. — A bench honoring a fallen firefighter who died last year was installed this week next to his fire department.
Zachary Clevenger died at his home last December after battling a fire. His wife, Christina, told LEX18 that he died of cardiac dysrhythmia.
“You always worry when they go out, but obviously at 30 years old you don’t expect this to happen,” Clevenger said. She gave birth to their son in June.
In an effort to honor and memorialize her husband, Clevenger helped install a bench in his honor by his fire department.
“Zach is on our minds all the time but this is the first thing we see when we pull in the parking lot at the station now,” Estill County Fire Captain Randall Moore said.
Clevenger was a full-time firefighter for the Montgomery Fire Department and volunteered at the Estill Fire Department.
His name will be added to the Kentucky Fallen Firefighter Memorial on Oct. 5.
