ABINGDON, Va. — A crash involving a fire department vehicle killed an Abingdon firefighter and seriously injured another.
The Virginia State Police stated that the vehicle was responding to a call when it went off the right side of the road, hit a utility pole, and overturned down an embankment, WJHL reported.
The driver was transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. WCYB reported that the passenger died on the scene.
The state police said the crash remains under investigation.
The neighboring Johnson City Firefighters Association posted on Facebook that they are sending their peer support team to assist the Abingdon Fire Department.
