SWANSEA, Ill. — The widow of a fallen firefighter found out she was expecting a baby two weeks after her husband was killed in an off-duty car crash.
KMOV 4 reported that Korves’ wife, Alex, is leaning on the support of her family and the community in the wake of her husband’s death. The couple also had an 18-month-old son, Brock, together, and Alex recently learned she was pregnant with their second child.
“He only got 18 months with Brock and Brock only got 18 months with him and this new baby will never get to know their dad,” she said. “He loved to work and when he wasn’t working, we’d leave town for the weekend and go down and camp and take Brock.”
Korves was killed when another driver hit his car head-on at 90 miles per hour, a fact that Alex is still trying to grasp.
“There are so many bad people out there, and for them to take someone like Brett…” she said.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $20,000 of a $25,000 goal.
