ROANOKE, Texas — The Roanoke Fire Department announced that Fire Captain Michael Reedy died on June 25 following a medical emergency. He was 38.

Reedy began his service with the department in 2007 as a volunteer firefighter and became a full-time member in 2008, the department stated. He served as the commander of the department’s Fire Honor Guard and led the Roanoke Klownz on Fire, a group dedicated to providing life and fire safety education to children, adults and senior citizens through performances and puppet shows.

“We are devastated by the loss of one of our own,” Roanoke Fire Chief Chris Addington said in a statement. “Captain Reedy embodied the highest ideals of our profession — honor, service, and brotherhood. Our department is mourning together as a family, and we extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Mayor Scooter Gierisch ordered flags to be flown at half-staff throughout the city in Reedy’s honor, the department stated in a Facebook post.

A memorial has been established at Fire Station 1, where Captain Reedy was assigned, for community members to pay their respects and offer condolences to the department and Reedy’s family, according to city officials.
