CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Firefighters around the world rallied behind a Cherokee County firefighter’s son who was diagnosed with leukemia by sending uplifting videos and celebrating his high school graduation despite him being too ill to attend.
FOX 46 reported that when 17-year-old Logan Droke was unable to walk the stage at his high school graduation ceremony, his dad, Cherokee County Firefighter Randall Droke, walked the stage for him and accepted his diploma on his behalf, to the cheers of dozens of local firefighters from both Cherokee and Cobb counties.
“We’re here to support Logan Droke and his family due to him battling leukemia for the fourth time and graduating high school on time,” Cherokee County Fire Lt. Brady Cornelison said. “We’re here to show support and that we love him.”
When Logan entered the hospital, news of his diagnosis spread throughout the firefighting community, and soon he was inundated with videos from firefighters around the world encouraging him and offering their support.
“To get to see Logan watch those videos, it was amazing, he loved them,” Cornelison said. “He would tell his dad he wakes up every morning hoping for a new video. Hoping for more to see. They’re working, he’s fighting.”
A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family pay for medical bills.
“We’re praying. We’re keeping up the fight because we’ve seen him fight,” Cornelison said. “We love him and his family and we want to help out any way we can.”
