EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — A program on fire safety spurred by the 2012 deaths of two Southern Illinois University students at an off-campus Edwardsville apartment is expanding to schools across the country.
The families of Lacy Siddall and Lauren Petersen and their lawyers used the proceeds of a $300,000 insurance settlement to help pay for an educational video shown to new SIUE students beginning last fall.
Attorney Ted Gianaris tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the public safety video is being provided to more than 200 universities nationwide to commemorate the four-year anniversary of the young women’s deaths.
The two were childhood friends who grew up in Bethalto.
