ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — A veteran first responder had a tough time choking back tears while testifying in the trial of a Quad City man accused of killing a baby.

Lavail Dunbar is charged with first degree murder in the September 2013 death of four month old Jermiah Morrison, his girlfriend’s baby. During day two of testimony, Rock Island Fire Capt. Darren LeBeau testifed about the day he and his colleagues desperately tried to save the baby, and how badly he was injured.

“It looked like the little one had been in an MMA fight,” Capt. LeBeau said, his voice cracking. “It looked like the infant had been involved in a mixed martial arts fight. The head was swollen more than it should. Maybe two times the size,” he said.
