LOS ANGELES — A fire captain died in February after coming home from a 36-hour shift.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Los Angeles Fire Department Captain David Moorman, 50, arrived home Feb. 5 after working a 36-hour shift. Within an hour, he collapsed, and a family member performed CPR on him until responders arrived.

Capt. Moorman was transported to the hospital, where he died a short time later.

Capt. Moorman was a 28-year veteran of the LAFD, according to Cal Fire Foundation. He was a member of the department’s Urban Search and Rescue team and California’s “Task Force 1,” and he responded to the 9/11 attacks.

Capt. Moorman is survived by his wife and two children.
